I am so impressed with your work, Christine. Through your endeavours, you continue to positively impact the lives of countless individuals globally. I look forward to learning more, and trying to emulate some of your good work!

  • Hi Christine, I was so moved by the way you conected with Yubaraj’s story and decided to do something about it. Amazing!

My name is Amita and I work with GiveIndia, an organisation that is helping end poverty in India. Please do pay our blog a visit at http://blog.giveindia.org

I think you’ll like my most recent post on the feedback reports we send our donors. Each one of these is like Yubaraj’s story (though much shorter) and really go to show donors that each person’s efforts have an impact.

I’ll be visiting often. Keep up the good work!

  • Hi Amita,

Thank you so much for your message. I’m so glad to learn about GiveIndia.org and your blog. Amazing to read not just about the projects/NGOs you support but the feedback you provide to your donors.

I’m involved in two initiatives you may be interested in.

The first is http://www.SocialActions.com, specifically their mashup API for platforms like GiveIndia. Here’s a description from the project plan we’re developing:

Purpose: To accelerate the efforts of social action platforms to expand their user-base and provide promotional tools to the individuals and organizations using their services. Social action platforms are social networks or web applications designed exclusively for facilitating peer-to-peer social change campaigns. They are in a unique position to guide individuals and organizations towards outreach, fundraising, and program work that reflect peer-to-peer models for social change. Examples include: BetterPlace, BringLight, CanadaHelps, Care2, Change.org, ChangingthePresent, ChipIn, Convio, DemocracyInAction, DonorsChoose, Facebook Causes, Firstgiving, Fundable, GiveMeaning, GlobalGiving, Helpalot, Kiva, ModestNeeds, MyCause.com.au, Nabuur, PledgeBank, Razoo, ShoutBack, SproutBuilder, SixDegrees, ThePoint, and ZaZengo.

Description: A public repository of active peer-to-peer social change campaigns from a large number of social action platforms. The open API will include: A comprehensive guide to the participating social action platforms; Instructions for third party developers who want to draw on the open API for social change web applications; A directory of mashups that make use of the open API; Links to groups and blog entries on Social Actions that refer to the open API; and Documentation for the standard format for referencing peer-to-peer social change campaigns.

We’d love to have your feedback/participation as this project is developed. Visit http://groups.google.com/group/social-actions for more information and to join the conversation.

The second initiative you might be interested in is a microphilanthropy workshop coming up in the San Francisco Bay area at the end of May, sponsored by http://www.UpliftAcademy.org and described at http://blog.socialactions.com/events/event/show?id=2062983%3AEvent%3A744).

It’s all about feedback in philanthropy — why it’s important and how to structure ICT tools to encourage it. It would be wonderful if you or a representative of GiveIndia could attend, to share your experiences with generating the feedback that you do and the impact it has on the nonprofits you serve and their relationship to your donor community.

Let me know if these projects trigger any comments or questions, and in the meantime thanks again for writing. I look forward to keeping in touch as our work continues!

  • Hi Christine,

Thanks for these ideas. I must admit that I’m still quite new to Web 2.0 and am still learning.

I’ve forwarded the info about the Bay Area event to my colleague who handles the feedback process. She won’t be able to make it all the way from Chennai but can read about it.

    warm regards,

    Amita

  • Hello Christine,

Love the stuff you’re doing! Keep up the great work and posts.

Would love some feedback on an organization I’m involved with that I think you’ll love and I’m very passionate about: http://www.uPlej.com

    Blog on!

  • Jon, thanks so much for the kind words!

I’d love to talk with you about uPlej — sounds like a great organization, and I like the synergy it creates between social networking and supporting social causes.

It would also be a great candidate for participation in Social Actions (http://www.socialactions.com), which is aggregating content from social action platforms via a search interface and open API. I’ve been newly appointed as their Lead Platform Liaison (http://tinyurl.com/6hyhbu) and would love to talk about your getting involved in what we’re building there.

I can be reached at christine@socialactions.com, or let me know how to get in touch with you. Thanks again for the positive feedback here and I look forward to talking with you in more detail about uPlej soon –

    Christine

  • Christine,

Sounds Great! I sent you an email earlier today. Looking forward to hearing back from you so we can schedule a time to talk on the phone.
